2013-14 Open Enrollment for K - 2 at Archway Anthem:
March 16th - March 23rd
| Need to Know: |
- Open Enrollment is NOT first-come, first-served. You can apply any time during open enrollment. Your application will enter a lottery for enrollment if we receive more applications than we have spots to offer.
|
|
- If you would like to submit an application for the current (2012-13) school year, please directly contact your school/s of interest.
|
Additional policies to be aware of:
- Our Open Enrollment period is NOT first-come, first served. If, for any grade level, the number of applicants exceeds the number of openings, there will be a lottery to determine enrollment and waitlist numbers. Only applications submitted during the OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD are included within that lottery pool. Lotteries will be held in January, and results will be available to view in mid January (dates pending for both events).
- Great Hearts has no admissions standards, but students may be required to do summer school work in order to meet graduation requirements and/or to prepare them for the rigors of the intense academics of the school.
- Siblings of currently enrolled students are granted priority status.
- If a family rejects or does not respond to an offer of enrollment, they are removed from the waitlist and must reapply if they wish to enroll in a future year.
- If a family does not receive an enrollment offer by the end of the year (i.e. they remain on the waitlist), their application will “roll over” to the next year if and only if they complete any paper work to that end required by the school (exceptions: see below). Applications that “roll over” are given priority over new applications.
- ROLL OVER EXCEPTION #1 - Applications received after August 14th for the current academic year do not roll over, and parents will need to fill out an application for the next academic year during the open enrollment period.
- ROLL OVER EXCEPTION #2 - Waitlisted applications for "exit-level" grades at Archway schools will be deleted at the end of the school year. These applications DO NOT roll over to our Preparatory Academies. "Exit-level" grades are the highest grade levels offered at our Archway schools. New applications must be submitted for "entry-level" grades at our Preparatory Academies in order to be considered for enrollment at those schools.
- Completion of online applications or acceptance of an offer of enrollment do not constitute actual enrollment. Parents must fill out an enrollment packet in the spring to be enrolled in the school. Failure to submit that enrollment packet by the school's deadline will result in the non-enrollment of the student.
- Great Hearts typically does not fill openings after the 100th day of school.
- Kindergartners must turn five before September 1 of the year for which they are applying in order to enroll.
- Some Great Hearts schools may hold Priority or Early Enrollment periods. All enrollment news for a particular school will be communicated with that school's email interest list subscribers. To subscribe to our email interest lists, visit www.greatheartsaz.org and click on ACADEMIES then CURRENT ACADEMIES. From there, select a school and enter an email address in the email box provided.
- Each academy has its own charter, but you may apply to multiple schools simultaneously using our Common Application.

Admission Policies
Applying to a Great Hearts academy:
- Each academy has its own charter, but you may apply to multiple schools simultaneously using our Common Application.
- Completion of online applications or acceptance of an offer of enrollment does not constitute actual enrollment. Parents must fill out an enrollment packet in the spring to be enrolled in the school. Failure to submit that enrollment packet by the school's deadline will result in the non-enrollment of the student.
- Great Hearts has no admissions standards, but students may be required to do summer school work in order to meet graduation requirements and/or to prepare them for the rigors of the intense academics of the school.
- Kindergartners must turn five by September 1 of the year for which they are applying in order to enroll.
2013-14 Open Enrollment Period:
- The OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD runs from November 19 - December 3, 2012.
- The OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD for Archway Glendale: December 5 - December 15, 2012.
Lottery:
- If, for any grade level, the number of applicants exceeds the number of openings, there will be a lottery to determine enrollment and waitlist numbers. Only applications submitted during the OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD are included within that lottery pool. Lotteries will be held in January, and results will be available to view in mid January (dates pending for both events).
- Applications received after the OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD are processed on a first-come, first-served basis, with applicants either being offered enrollment or being placed on the waitlist in the order that the application was submitted.
- Some Great Hearts schools may hold Priority or Entry Level Grade Enrollment Events (not the same as Open Enrollment). All enrollment news for a particular school will be communicated with that school's interest list subscribers. Please see instructions below on "How to Join the Interest Lists".
How to Join the Interest Lists:
- The best way to receive up-to-date information concerning current and future academies is to join the Interest List.
Offers of Enrollment:
- If lottery results indicate that your child has earned a spot at one of our schools, or when your child's waitlisted application reaches the top of the waitlist and a spot becomes available, the school will call you immediately. If a family rejects or does not respond to an offer of enrollment, their application is removed from our system. That family must reapply if they wish to enroll in a future year.
- Great Hearts typically does not fill openings after the 100th day of school.
How our Waitlists Work:
- When your application reaches the top of the waitlist and a spot becomes available to you, the school will call you immediately.
- You may move up or down on the list. Don't be too worried if you move down a few spots; this occasionally happens. For example, a 1st grade student is called from the waitlist because someone declined a spot. The 1st grader has a sibling who is #50 on the waitlist for 3rd grade. This sibling must (by law) be given "sibling preference," so she moves up to the top of the 3rd grade waitlist (or near the top; there may be other siblings ahead of her). Therefore, if your 3rd grade child had started at #49, s/he will now be bumped down to #50.
Sibling Priority:
- Siblings of currently enrolled students are granted priority status on our waitlists. Sibling priority will take effect immediately when the applicant's sibling is a currently enrolled student. Sibling priority for an applicant whose sibling was just offered a spot does not receive priority status until the "offered" sibling's final enrollment paperwork has been submitted and they have been officially enrolled in the school.
- Sibling priority only applies within the same school. Our Archway Academies and Preparatory Academies of the same location are separate schools.
Predicting Waitlist Outcomes:
- It is not possible for us to determine your child's chances of being offered a spot. Once our classes are full, any spots that open up are the result of student withdrawals. Although we do expect to see a number of spots open up before the start of school, we have no way of knowing in which grades spots will open up or how many spots will become available.
Roll-Over Policy:
- If your child is not offered a spot for the school year to which they applied, and your application was submitted before August 15th, 2012, the school will contact you at some point after the school year starts to find out if you would like to roll the application over to the next school year. If you opt to do this, you will not have to reapply for the next school year, and your application will move up the waitlist with other rollover applications and will be ahead of new, incoming applications submitted for the next school year. It is crucial that you do not miss the Roll-Over deadline to ensure your child's application is moved to the next year's wait list. It is the parents' responsibility to ensure that the school/s have your most current contact information.
- Please note that applications cannot roll over from one school to another. For example, waitlisted 5th grade applications for Archway Veritas cannot be rolled over to 6th grade at Veritas Prep. New applications must be submitted for entry level grades at our Preparatory Academies.
- Furthermore, applications received after August 14th, 2012 cannot be rolled over to the 2013 - 2014 school year.
Please direct any questions, issues, etc. concerning the rollover process to the school of interest.
